Welcome to the 10th Annual FISHING & HERITAGE DAY

In partnership with the South Otselic Fish Culture Station and Gladding Braided Products, LLC, the Otselic Valley Fishing & Heritage Association (OVF&HA) is proud to announce its tenth annual Fishing & Heritage Day will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 9am to 4pm in the hamlet of South Otselic.

Fishing & Heritage Day will include many popular activities as well as new offerings at the State Fish Hatchery, the Otselic Town Park, and other locations within the hamlet.  Some of this year's plans include:

In the Town Park:  musicians Rylee Lum, Zachary Rowland, and DJ/Karaoke entertainer/musician Gary Morley; “Birds of Prey” presentations; debut of the 2018 U.S. Postal Service Fishing & Heritage Day cancellation, with original artwork by local artist, Dan Faulkner; arts, crafts, antiques and food vendors and a “corn hole tournament.  At Gladding, one of their vintage rope braiding machines will be demonstrated.  Nearby, the “Duck Derby” will take place by the bridge; the annual beef barbecue luncheon and community-wide garage sales, will again be sponsored by the Otselic Valley Grange.  At the Hatchery plans include: continuation of the trout fishing clinics, hosted by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and Trout Unlimited; other youth fishing programs presented by the Salmon River International Sport Fishing Museum in Pulaski, home of the Gladding collection; fly casting and fly tying, along with information and exhibits from Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center and the Upper Susquehanna Coalition; in addition, there will be horse-drawn wagon rides by Lamplit Farm.   The South Otselic Fire Department's open house, and carry-out chicken barbeque, the Otselic Valley Garage and local FFA Chapter's display of vintage tractors, balloon twister Dave Westervelt performing at both the Town Park and the Hatchery, and the Four County Library System Bookmobile, will all help round out the program.

During the past nine years, Fishing Heritage Day has provided an opportunity for thousands of family members to enjoy a special day celebrating the heritage of this historic “fishing line capital of the world”.  Plan to bring family and friends to this special one-day, 10th anniversary event.
