South Otselic is a
small, rural community situated along the Otselic River in Chenango
County. Founded about 200 years ago, the hamlet has a proud history
relating to sport fishing. Beginning in 1816, the Gladding Fishing Line
Co. manufactured a variety of quality fishing lines for many years. A
state stocked trout stream, the Otselic River, runs through the hamlet
and has been a popular destination for generations of anglers. In 1932,
the state of New York established the present fish hatchery.
The newly formed
Otselic Valley Fishing & Heritage Association welcomes you
to the second annual Fishing Heritage Day. The event strives to increase
public awareness and appreciation of the area's historic role in the
sport fishing industry, and to offer visitors an opportunity to learn
basic fishing skills.
Please
be considerate of private property, and exercise caution when crossing
State Hwy 26 and local streets.
