This year marks the 200th anniversary establishing the Town of Otselic on March 28, 1817.
The bicentennial year kicked off with a six-month exhibit at the Chenango County Museum, located at 45 Rexford Street in Norwich, beginning with an opening reception on Saturday, March 11. The exhibit encompasses an entire gallery room inside the Museum, as well as space within the adjacent Loomis Barn. Hours for the Museum are Tuesday – Friday: 9am to 4pm and Saturday: 11am to 4pm.
In addition, a special US Postal cancellation will debut this summer, featuring artwork by local South Otselic resident Michael Sheridan.
The main event for the year is scheduled on Saturday, July 8, beginning at 10am at the Otselic Town Park in South Otselic. A special flag raising, a proclamation, a guided bus tour, historic roadside marker dedication, a community picnic and concert, are among the scheduled offerings.
Those wishing to learn more, and/or help with the event, are invited to attend the semi-monthly meetings held in the Otselic Town Hall, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 7 pm, or call 315-653- 7490.
